About Nikon Digital Cameras

Nikon was originally formed back in the 1910’s by the merger of 2 of Japan’s leading optical manufacturers. They were originally known as Nippon Kogaku K.K.

During the 1920’s Nikon looked to improve their products by inviting eight German technicians to  provide them with technical guidance.

In 1932 the camera lenses being manufactured were branded as “Nikkor” lenses. The Nikkor lens brand is still in use by Nikkon today on their digital camera and SLR products.

During the late 40’s Nippon Kogaku K.K small sized cameras officially became known as “Nikon” cameras.

1950 was a great year for Nikon in that the New York Times announced the superior quality of Nikon cameras and Nikkor lenses to the world

Since then Nikkon has continued to be one of the best digital SLR camera and film camera manufacturers in the world.
With such products as the recently released and highly acclaimed Nikon D3X which has outperformed similar model Canon and Sony brand cameras -  Nikon’s new SLR leads the pack for sensor quality they continue to innovate and lead the world in maufacturing high end studio quality digital SLR cameras.
